The Victorian era was a clock time when women started to develop a sense of feminism. A new ideal about womanhood began to intertwine with new ideologies about the home. These ideals provided a new perspective on the roles of women and their duties as wives. The beliefs of the cult of true Womanhood describe four essential characteristics that all women should have. These characteristics were piety, purity, submissiveness, and domesticity. piety is the devotion to god. In the Victorian Era, the Church and religion were nevertheless part of the aristocracy and had power and wealth. A womans purity was highly revered and without it a woman was no longer good. For the upper class women, sex was viewed as unrefined, while for the working class, sex was necessary for having more children. Children were assets who helped slightly the house and the fields. Upper class women saw no take up for children and so sexuality for the rich were very oft restrained.
